The clip on my Taurus had broken off long ago, so I would have to fish open my fuel door with a credit card.I decided to go looking for how to fix it, and saw it was only a matter of the OEM part being broken, not something more internal (which I had feared).It was a matter of some googling to find what I needed, but once I got the part name/number, it was just a matter of finding a good price.Amazon had it for cheapest!Now all I have to do is pull the lever inside the car by the driver's side door on the floorboard, like it was designed to do.
